Beginning May 4, the Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing was changed to the Division of Professional Licensing. The name change has nothing to do with a change in what they do, but rather an intentional move to be more responsive to the customers they serve.
Employees and citizens have referred to DOPL by just the acronym for years. Others already use the shortened “Professional Licensing.” For those people, the removal of “occupational” from the name may go unnoticed.
The change was made official as part of the passing of SB 43. That bill, among other things, expanded endorsements for professional licensing. This allows individuals with a license in another state or country the opportunity to more easily obtain a license in Utah.
Rebranding will happen incrementally as needed.
